The importance of getting your checked regularly

Hello I’m doctor Chris Steele, resident
doctor on ITV’s This morning program and I would like to tell you why it’s so
important to get your hearing checked regularly. Many of us will experience
hearing loss as a natural part of the aging process but for
some regular exposure to loud noises or illness could be the cause and in around ninety percent of all cases the tiny cells in the inner ear will of
become damaged, affecting our ability to detect signs sent to the brain. Now there are many
signs that could indicate your suffering from hearing loss. Do you have to turn
the volume up high to hear your favorite TV shows? Are you finding it hard to hear and follow
conversations? Especially in a noisy environment. Or are you
struggling to tell which direction sounds are coming from?
It could be that you find yourself tilting your head or when listening to
people leaning towards them or even trying to lip read them. All these things could point to some level of hearing loss. Now research has shown that on average
most people wait a number of years before doing anything about their hearing problems. To many people needing a hearing aid means their old. Or that hearing aids are big unsightly and difficult to wear but these days that’s really not the case. As many as one in six of us in the UK are living with hearing loss. While around
6.3 million of these people all aged over 65 a further 3.7 million are aged between 16 and 64. Whats more, today’s hearing aids use the latest digital technology.
They’re much smaller than you may think and come in colors to match your skin tone. Hearing aids are so small they’re almost invisible and comfortable to wear so there’s really no need to feel self-conscious. I’m wearing mine right now. Did you know notice? Now these can even link to your iPhone so you can control the volume and adjust the settings to
different environments quickly and easily. Now you may think
this all sounds expensive but with most hearing specialists hearing tests
are free and there are no waiting lists. Plus the
latest hearing aids could be more affordable than you realise. It’s no different than going for an eye test or visiting the dentist and at your free
hearing check, your hearing aid audiologist will demonstrate a range if hearing aids to you to help find one thats just right for your needs and if
you do become a customer you’ll receive lifetime after care to ensure
you’re hearing and hearing aids are working as good as they should be.
So don’t leave it any longer, hearing loss can leave you feeling frustrated, isolated and can put a strain on relationships plus the longer problems go unchecked the worse they can become but with a free hearing check you could help to get your life back and
