Industrial Deafness Tinnitus

Industrial Deafness Tinnitus

An 82-year-old has been paid
compensation following an industrial deafness claim
against the tyre firm he used to work for. 82 year old James Hooton worked at Stoke’s Michelin factory for 28 years until 1986 without
the correct hearing protection despite his ears constantly being
bombarded by overhead motors, rubber cutting machines and drills. As a result, in January this year,
an ear, nose & throat consultant confirmed that James was suffering from tinnitus and partial hearing loss in both ears.He
told the Stoke Sentinel that his condition is “extremely frustrating” and hopes the £2,500 award acts as
a reminder to other companies to provide the correct
equipment for staff. If you’ve suffered in the past from your
organisation not giving you the right safety equipment, you too may be able to make an industrial deafness claim –
